How Can A Root Chakra Imbalance Disrupt Your Entire Energy System?

You may not realize that one block can actually upset the harmony of your whole energy system. It's not like a cut on your arm that really only bothers your arm. It's like a turned ankle that makes you walk with a limp that slowly shifts your hips into moving unevenly and the imbalance gradually wiggles up your spine until you have a kink in your neck.

From my energy work - both in Reiki and in coaching - I've been putting together more about the interconnectivity and reactions of energy blocks, leaks, and imbalances.

Today, we're diving DEEP on an example of unsteady root chakra - the foundation of it all. And how lack of grounding undermines your entire energetic system.

Wait, what ARE chakras? ANd HOW are they interconnected?

Energy moves through your body along energy channels or nadis (channels for prana - energy), or meridians,  kind of like the way that blood moves through the veins.   Your energy is constantly flowing and circulating.

Everywhere that the energy channels meet is a hub of energy, a spinning wheel of energy, a chakra.   Depending on the source that you look at, there can be hundreds or thousands of chakras documented.  There are seven “main” chakras that are most frequently referenced, worked with, and healed with focused attention. These special seven chakras go up the spine from root to crown.

Why Are There 7 Main Chakras?

There are three energy  channels here - ida, pingala, and sushumna. Ida is the left, yin, feminine parasympathetic system channel.  Pingala is the right, yang, masculine, active channel.  Ida and Pingala spiral or loop in waves around the central channel, called the Sushumna.  Where these 3 channels intersect, we have the 7 main chakras.

Interconnectivity of the Chakra Energies

Because the energy is always moving and flowing, even one energy block, energy leak, or energy imbalance can shift or even upset the whole energy system.  That’s what I wanted to focus on today.

How you do one thing is how you do everything - if the energy flow is low or depleted in one area, it’s hard for it to be fully flowing and moving in alignment everywhere else.

That being said, it’s not all or nothing - if you heal one part you can improve your whole system.

There will always be fluctuations so none of this is intended to say that it’s not worth it to work on one part or that your system will be broken if there’s a kink in one of the hoses.

My work is to help spiritual creatives and entrepreneurs learn to hone the whole system and to know which part to work on when something feels off– and what to do to heal and how to heal it.

Try this quiz if you’re curious which of your chakras is holding you back the most:

Let’s look at a couple of examples - loosely based on real humans to protect their privacy - consider it a cross between a case study and a hypothetical.

The Ripple Effect of a Root Chakra Imbalance

Let’s say someone’s main imbalance is in the root chakra.  Her life and energy are deeply intertwined with her work.  She counts on her work to feel grounded and safe.  She takes radical responsibility for the outcomes of her work, connecting them to her personal worth.

But then let’s say one of her work projects doesn’t go as planned.  Then things in her work life aren’t stable as she’s leaning on them for a foundation for her whole personal energy system too. Her energy system is built on shaky ground.

The root will try to pull energy from other sources - often the chakras above it - to try to compensate and stabilize the foundation.

The next chakra up the spine is the sacral chakra.  This center is for creativity and pleasure.  When the root chakra is imbalanced because of the new work upset, it may pull energy from this center- leaving the woman with less creativity, or less drive to act on creative impulses, and less enjoyment.  She’ll lean on logic and implement strategy statically rather than reconnecting with creativity and her own core essence and inner wisdom.

The center above that is related to self-worth and confidence (the solar plexus chakra).  The root will likely also pull energy from this center to try to normalize and the woman will likely feel less sure of herself and her work.  She’ll doubt herself and shrink her light, leaning away from her inner fire and her personal gifts.

If the reaction continues upward, the next center is the heart.  She will likely still be outpouring love and energy - even running her whole system on love- to try to compensate, but closing herself from receiving because of feelings of inadequacy, lack of stability, and lack of self love because she has a hard time fully seeing and accepting herself as she’s unsteady on her now shaky foundation that she otherwise relies on for security.

Then the communication center (throat chakra) will be impacted next - when the energy is pulled out from underneath it, the energy of the throat is depleted too. She’ll likely feel constricted in her throat and her life.  She’ll have a hard time voicing herself and sharing her work that she no longer feels is stable, no longer feels the creative drive to pursue, no longer has the confidence to feel empowered in, or the self-love to forgive and trust as she moves forward.

She will likely still be receiving intuitive and divine guidance, but may have closed or shrunk her third eye and crown as part of the chain reaction, making it difficult to receive the signs, nudges, and wisdom coming in.

How to Resolving Root Chakra Blocks Affects the Whole System

If you’re thinking, “yikes, that sounds like a disaster, what can she do??”

She has to learn to ground within herself - to reclaim sovereignty as a powerful woman, rather than trying to ground her personal energy in her business. [Side note: It works the same if you’re trying to ground into another person or other external circumstance- it’s also unsteady because it’s out of your control.]

She has to be able to find stability and safety within her body even when things aren’t going as well as planned.  That’s what creates the resilience and surety to move through the business’ struggle.  AND it creates a stable foundation for all of her energy to build on - once her root chakra is stable, her energy will be able to flow to the other chakras again:

  • She’ll reunite with her creativity, enjoyment, and her drive to pursue her passions.

  • She’ll find more confidence in herself and see her personality and gifts more clearly.

  • She’ll find it easier to share that love she pours out with herself too when she feels good about who she is.

  • When she’s feeling good about what she’s creating and doing, it’s easier to talk about it and share it too.

  • And she feels more free and open to intuitive and divine guidance too.

  • Everything is flowing and she feels more full, peaceful, and free.

It all starts with healing the root chakra - the energetic foundation for safety, security, grounding, centeredness.
